The preferred video format that the television (cable) companies want is MPEG-2 video.
I advise that the video data rate be 9mbps and the audio be about 320kbps.
They say they can use other formats such as Windows Media and Quicktime, but they want MPEG-2 if possible and at the highest quality.

VLC is strongly recommended to watch these television advertisements because of what formats these advertisements are encoded with
Eric Schansberg gas price advertisement produced by Jeffersonville High School (5.8MB Ogg Media download) [right-click and "save link as"]
Eric Schansberg fiscal conservative advertisement produced by Kristian Naugle (5.4MB Ogg Media download) [right-click and "save link as"]
Eric Schansberg fiscal sanity advertisement produced by Kristian Naugle (4.3MB Ogg Media download) [right-click and "save link as"]
Fiscal Sanity advertisement audio encoded into MP3 (1.14MB MP3 download) [right-click and "save link as"]
Fiscal Sanity advertisement audio encoded into Vorbis (1.5MB Vorbis download) [right-click and "save link as"]
Fiscal Sanity advertisement audio encoded losslessly in FLAC (2.2MB FLAC download) [right-click and "save link as"]
These advertisements were encoded using Xvid for the video codec with Vorbis for the audio codec while using the Ogg Media container format through the Avidemux encoding software. This choice was made by me (Kristian Naugle) so that these advertisements can be made available for distribution and viewing across many computing platforms while only having to provide one media file that is patent-free for people to watch in operating systems such as Windows, Mac, and GNU/Linux. FLAC version of this audio is now available, learn more about FLAC
This is so I don't have to make a Windows Media version for people who use Eugenisoft Windows and so I don't have to make a Quicktime version for people who use Apple's Mac OS.
Any and all multimedia files on this website are playable with VLC from any operating system that VLC is designed for.
